Its performance has immediate influence on other reconstruction tasks such as calibration, alignment and particle identification. The tracking algorithm is designed to work with or without prior estimate of the track position. Thus one can distinguish two main applications: the Stand Alone Tracking (SAT) used in the High Level Trigger (HLT) system of ALICE or to analyze test beam or cosmic rays data and the Standard Tracking (ST) used to reconstruct physics events in the ALICE offline framework.

Global Tracking Unit for ALICE TRD

The ALICE TRD Detector employs 1080 optical links for data readout. The FEE chips (TRAP [1]) form a readout tree running at 8 bit 120 MHz double data rate. The tracklet and raw data are sent over the Optical Readout Interface (ORI) at 2.5 Gbit/s. The Global Tracking Unit (GTU) serves as data receiver and fast track finder and contributes to the L1 trigger decision. Finally, after L2 accept the ...

Beam tests with an ALICE TRD supermodule

The Transition Radiation Detector (TRD) of the ALICE experiment at LHC is designed to provide electron/pion identification and tracking of all charged particles [1]. The TRD will supplement the TPC electron/pion identification by a pion rejection factor of the order of 100 at momenta above 1 GeV/c, allowing precision measurements of quarkonia. Sophisticated on-detector electronics [2] is design...

First High-Energy Collisions with the ALICE TRD Global Tracking Unit

The Transition Raditation Detector (TRD) of the ALICE experiment is designed to provide fast triggers based on the online reconstruction of charged particle tracks within approximately 6.5μs after the collision. A total of 1.2 million analog channels for 540 readout drift chambers are processed by more than 65 500 multi-chip modules to find and parameterize short track segments. Via 1 080 optic...

Measurement of the gas amplification of ALICE-TRD chambers at the IKF

Before integration in the ALICE experiment, the readout chambers of the ALICE-Transition-RadiationDetector (TRD) [1] are tested at the Institut für Kernphysik Frankfurt (IKF), including measurements of their gas amplification factor. In this report, we describe the revisal of these test-procedures by introducing additional measurements to ensure a self-consistent determination of the absolute g...

Track reconstruction in the TRD and MuCh detectors

The successful application of the TRD tracking algorithms [1] lead to the idea to generalize and optimize those algorithms in a flexible way in order to make them applicable for other, similar detectors. In this contribution we present how this idea was realized and applied for the TRD layout optimization and for track finding in the MuCh detector. Since both tracking detector setups (TRD and M...
